Chopin Society Presents Pianist Vadym Kholodenko

3:00 PM  - 4:45 PM
Sunday Oct 14, 2018
Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Music Building

Ukrainian-born and Moscow-educated, 32-year old Vadym Kholodenko was thrust into one of the brightest of classical music spotlights in 2013 when he was awarded the Gold Medal and other top prizes at the Fourteenth Van Cliburn Competition. Prior to the Cliburn he had won a number of other prominent competition prizes, including First Prize at Japan's Sendai Competition and the Grand Prix at the Maria Callas Competition in Athens, but the win in Fort Worth gave his career the boost needed to forge a major international career. It also led to his becoming the first-ever Artist in Partnership with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, beginning in 2014-2015. Since then, his reputation has solidified as a dynamic performer with technique, intelligent musicianship and stamina to spare. Highlights of the 2017-18 season included engagements with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitane, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and a U.S. tour with the Staatskapelle Weimar under Kirill Karabits. Vadym is also Artist-in-Residence at the Fribourg International Piano Series for both solo and chamber music. His recordings for Harmonia Mundi include the Cliburn Gold Medal Winner's CD, plus critically hailed pairings of the Grieg and Saint-Saens No. 2 concertos with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, and Prokofiev Nos. 2 & 5 with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, also with Harth-Bedoya.

"One of Kholodenko's two most notable qualities as a pianist are his stunning ringing tone, which allows him to leave notes hanging in the air longer than the physics of acoustics would suggest is possible."
