Alumnae Recital: SEEN/UNSEEN
- 9:30 PM
Thursday Nov 10, 2016
Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Music Building
Bethany Battafarano and Emma Rose Lynn, sopranos, and Johanna Kvam, piano
The concert features three alumnae from the class of 2013, and is the culmination of a two-day residency in the Music Department.
"Seen/Unseen" is an exploration of the works/stories which are often overlooked in the canon, featuring works by Victoria Malawey (Macalester Music Department Assistant Professor and Chair), Lili Boulanger, Hugo Wolf, Richard Strauss, Joaquín Rodrigo, Xavier Montsalvatge, and a set of Medieval/renaissance chant and polyphonic duets.
Bethany Battafarano ('13) is a Twin-Cities based soprano. A member of the Rose Ensemble, she has also performed with The Singers MCA, MN Chorale, Cathedral of St. Paul, and Apollo Master Chorale, and has appeared with Oratory, Elm Ensemble, and First Readings Project. Emma Rose Lynn (‘13) is a soprano currently pursuing a master's degree in vocal performance as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon. Profiled by the Seattle Times as an "eloquent and charming soprano" for her entrepreneurial work founding the Northwest Chapter of Groupmuse, she enjoys pushing the boundaries of the concert hall by bring classical music into non-traditional spaces. Johanna Kvam ('13) is a versatile pianist with experience and interest across a wide range of styles, from Broadway and jazz standards to opera and art song. A two-time recipient of the Clara Ascherfeld Award in Accompanying, Johanna is a recent graduate of Peabody Conservatory's Vocal Accompanying MM program.
